A new talent joins the Itzu Tri Team

The Belgian triathlete Ruben Geys will be racing in our Itzu colors as from 2018. The 28 year old sports teacher achieved some very strong performances in 2017. In Belgium he was victorious in Lommel, Rijkevorsel, Retie and his hometown Balen. The highlight of his season came in Rotterdam where he achieved the World Title in his Age Group. As from next year Ruben will race a big part of the year in Belgium but he will also take the step to the international circuit at the 70.3 distance.

Ruben is a 28 year old sports teacher in special needs education Zonneweelde, Lommel. At the age of 19 he participated in his first triathlon. Before he used to do long distance runs. In 2012 he had his first big victory in the 1/4th triathlon of Viersel. In between in 2016 he became Belgian Champion Beermile. This year he achieved a 3rd place in the BC Beermile.

Ruben was charmed right away by the interest of Itzu. “I had been talking to Koen for quite some time and earlier this year he already asked me to choose for the Itzu Tri Team. I was a bit hesitant to make this step, especially because of my job, which I love. But if I want to make career in triathlon, this is the ideal oportunity. I’m 28 and would love to try my best at the longer distances. Surrounded by the Itzu Tri Team I get to enjoy a professional support and get the opportunity to train with a top coach as Luc Van Lierde.”
